On June 9, 2026, the opening ceremony of the cultural exhibition „Turkmenistan: 35 Years of Independence – A Celebration of Heritage and Culture,” organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania, took place in the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest. The event was dedicated to the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence and the proclamation of the year 2026 „Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Heavenly Horses.”
The exhibition vividly showcased the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and the modern achievements of Independent Neutral Turkmenistan. The opening ceremony was attended by heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, representatives of government agencies and academia, heads of cultural organizations, members of the business community, Turkmen students studying in Romania and media representatives.
During the opening ceremony, it was noted that Independent and Neutral Turkmenistan places special emphasis on preserving its cultural heritage, developing international humanitarian cooperation, and strengthening intercultural dialogue. The Ambassador of Turkmenistan Mr. A.Annayev in his speech focused on the country’s interaction with the UN and UNESCO, which has enabled the global community to become increasingly familiar with the rich heritage of the Turkmen people.
The exhibition featured national handmade carpets, examples of decorative and applied art, folk art, traditional national costumes and jewelry, photographs, and other exhibits revealing the uniqueness of Turkmen culture and the country’s dynamic development.
The guests were particularly interested in the works of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, dedicated to issues of the state’s domestic and foreign policy, the principles of permanent neutrality, the development of science and education, the education of youth, and the preservation of national spiritual and moral values.
The exhibition became yet another vivid demonstration that culture remains the universal language of friendship, mutual understanding, and the rapprochement of peoples.
