Protecting the health of the person, which is the highest value of society and the state, is one of the priorities of the state policy in Turkmenistan. Under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, new lofty goals and tasks are being set to further modernize the national healthcare system. On the basis of the “Revival of the New Epoch of a Powerful State: National Program for the Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052”, “Program of the President of Turkmenistan for the Socio-Economic Development of the Country in 2022-2028”, “National Program of the President of Turkmenistan for the Reform of the Living and Social Conditions of the Population of Villages, Settlements, Cities in Districts and District Centers for the Period up to 2028”, modern scientific and clinical centers, sanatoriums, modern pharmaceutical enterprises, and health centers are being built in Ashgabat and the regions.
During the years of independence, Turkmenistan has implemented a lot of work in the field of protecting human health, popularizing healthy lifestyles, and promoting physical education and mass sports in accordance with the State „Health” Program, developed under the leadership of the National Leader of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In the International Year of Peace and Trust (2025), it will be 30 years since the adoption of the State „Health” Program, developed under the initiative Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. During this period, as a result of the successful implementation of the tasks arising from the program, great progress has been achieved in the healthcare system. „Mother’s Mercy” (“Ene mähri”), emergency „Ambulance”, International Rehabilitation and International Physiology Scientific and Clinical Centers, multi-purpose hospitals, sanatoriums, and pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises have been built. Good results have been achieved in implementing advanced methods and innovative practices in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases, in extending human life expectancy, and in providing accessible and high-quality medical services. In developing international cooperation in this area, exemplary work is being carried out, recognized by the world community, in particular the World Health Organization (WHO). In this regard, the health of the population is improving significantly, and the average life expectancy is increasing.
In Turkmenistan, protecting people’s health, developing the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry system in accordance with world standards, preventing diseases, and fully providing the population with healthcare services are among the important tasks. The National Leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s recently published new book, which is called „Achievements in Healthcare”, effectively tells about the advanced stages of national healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry. Speaking of international cooperation, Turkmenistan is increasingly strengthening multilateral relations with countries of the world and major international organizations in the healthcare system. Great importance is attached to expanding scientific-medical relations in such important areas as mutual exchange of experience through telemedicine and teleconsultations, and the introduction of leading methods in practical medicine. Active cooperation is being developed with specialized agencies of the United Nations, including the World Health Organization, by promoting new areas of cooperation in the field of medical and scientific diplomacy.
In accordance with WHO recommendations, necessary measures are being taken to strengthen the health of at-risk groups of the population to prevent cardiovascular, oncological, respiratory and neuropsychiatric diseases, and diabetes mellitus. Our country’s achievements and successes in this area are recognized internationally. In this regard, it is worth noting that the WHO European Regional Office awarded our country a special award in recognition of the work carried out in the interests of the health and well-being of the population.
In Turkmenistan, adhering to the principles of a healthy lifestyle, engaging in physical education and sports is a priority at the state level and enjoys wide support among the population. At the initiative of Turkmenistan, the declaration of June 3 as the World Bicycle Day on April 12, 2018, within the framework of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, is one of the vivid examples of our country’s initiatives for the benefit of humanity.
By implementing programmatic reforms in the healthcare and medical sector, new developments in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry of the Independent, Permanently Neutral State are effectively ensured.
